Once this Fiat Stilo engine ECU starts to have problems you may find that it will intermittently refuse to start. However common fault codes you may find when the ECU does communicate include those for motorised throttle and throttle position faults. When using scan tools on the Stilo, the engine ECU may not directly communicate depending on the severity of the internal breakdown. You may be able to re-start the engine, but it will often be in limp home mode with a max rev limit of 2000RPM. The engine will stop running after the engine management light comes on and the vehicle loses revs, either at idle or whilst driving. Engine ECU failure for Fiat Stilo 2001-2008 will commonly cause the engine to randomly cut out.
